How can you resist profiling a schlager girl who starred in a German play entitled, "Happy Hippies in Space," and who, as part of a kiddie pop group had a smash bubblegum hit called "Dubi Dam Dam"?
Cathrin Geissler

That girl is Hamburg's Cathrin Geissler, who's a svelte 27 year old now and, having apparently conquered outer space, has begun her foray into the schlager realm.

A child prodigy, of sorts, she first set foot on stage, singing, at the age of seven and at 12, recorded a demo tape singing her favorite Christina Aguilera song.

Then in 2004 she was cast in a singing role in the aforementioned Hamburg Delphi Showpalast production of Happy Hippies in Space, which not unsurprisingly, did not make its way across the Atlantic to Broadway (or even Off-Off-Off Broadway.)

But in 2005, Cathrin Geissler caught her big break, being cast as the youngest member of a prefabricated kiddie pop group, named Banaroo.

For the next two years they produced a succession of magnificently trite bubblegum pop tunes, illustrated by animated cartoon videos. The most notable of these, Dubi Dam Dam, skyrocketed to #2 on the German pop charts and garnered 2 ECHO award nominations.

In 2007, the group dissolved on account of (if you can imagine this) "artistic differences."

It was back, then, to the greasepaint and footlights for Cathrin Geissler, who over the next 7 years, appeared in 6 productions at the Delphi Showpalast - three of them in starring roles.

She made the big leap to a solo singing career last year, inking a deal with Telamo Records, which hooked her up with several veteran pop/schlager producers and issued her first CD, entitled "I"

She is hardly the first schlager girl trying to make the transition from kiddie-pop to serious schlager.
Linda Hesse did that two years ago - moving from the German TV kiddie group Wie mir to full fledged schlager stardom.

Geissler is unquestionably a solid vocalist with an engagingly theatrical poise and she has a solid base of younger residual fans from her Banaroo days.

The best that can be said about the songs on her new CD, is that they are nice, but not too far out of the ordinary.

Still, the very lovely and talented Cathrin Geissler's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Here from Cathrin Geissler's debut CD is Zeig mir wie die liebe ist (Show me how love is):

Here's Cathrin Geissler's very schlager, Er komme wieder her (Here he comes back) also from 2013. (Can't German video producers ever come up with anything more interesting than beach backdrops -- Good God!):

Here you can see Catrin Geissler in the original cast of Banaroo, singing their big hit Dubi Dam Dam, which actually went to #2 on the German pop charts in 2005. It's about space aliens - Cathrin does seem to have a thing for outer space:
