| Jurgen Marcus' new Zeitreif CD has been garnering good reviews |

HOUSTON -- Hugely popular in the 1970's Jürgen Marcus was a heartthrob with his long blond hair and gorgeous smile.
Born Jürgen Beumer on June 6, 1948 in Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, he originally trained as a locksmith. He performed in the German version of Hair in 1969, where he was discovered by producer Jack White.
Jürgen first hit the charts in 1970 with a cover of Simon & Garfunkle's El Condor Pasa which was entitled in German, Nur Du.
He had three consecutive top 10 hits in 1972-73. Most notably, Eine neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben ("A new love is like a new life") which peaked at #2 in 1972.
He also made his movie debut in the big screen 1972 film, Heut hau'n wir an die Pauke . He appeared in made for TV movies in 1975 and 1979.
Alternatively known as "the voice" or "the whip" because of his singing skills and performing style, up until 1982, he made a total of 36 appearances on the popular ZDF Hitparade. He holds the record as the performer with the most number one songs to have appeared on that show.

Jürgen represented Luxembourg in the 1976 Eurovision song contest, but placed 14th out of 18 entries.
He won numerous awards during his career (Golden Lions, Golden Record, Golden Europa, Golden Otto and many others).
After changing managers in 1979 Marcus experienced a significant commercial decline.
He released a comeback album in 2004 Ich glaub an die Welt ("I believe in the world") and a Christmas album in 2006 Tausend Lichter, tausend Kerzen ("A thousand Lights, A Thousand Candles").
In 2008 he released the Für immer (Forever), produced by schlager legend Christian Bruhn. Marcus' new release Zeitreif ("The Time is Ripe") has been garnering good reviews.
Marcus, a native of the Rhineland now lives in Munich, the Bavarian capitol city.

The velvet suit from the 70s was a killer! I remember when that was pretty much the standard dress for many singers and groups. :)
